Austin's bustling airport hub, AUS, is hailed for knitting closer ties with the local community in 2025, having fostered over 14,000 connections at various city events and fundraisers, according to the City of Austin's recent blog post. The airport's presence at popular happenings, such as Blues on the Green and the ABC Kite Festival, has provided an opportunity for storytelling, informational exchange on airport renovations, and the eternal debate on the terminal's best sandwich spot.
"Every time we greet people and say we are the airport, they perk up, give a big smile and say ‘we love the airport!' ‘Swag?’ YESSS!’" AnaLau Cavazos, Community Engagement Specialist, shared in excitement, according to the AUS report, signifying the airport's charm amongst locals. Furthermore, the airport's strong charitable influence rang through in their AUS for ATX initiative, raising a laudable sum of $33,976 for local causes and aiding 2,000 families during the AUS for ATX School Supply Drive.
Small businesses and subcontractors found a beacon of opportunity at AUS's own 'Runway to Opportunities' event, paving the runway for them to intersect with prime construction firms and explore the airport's expansion undertakings; at this event, 50 small entities were able to register as city vendors, securing their chance to contend for airport and city contracts, with another event slated for February 10th, as launched in anticipation of continued successes.
With the tug of giving back, AUS employees gladly extended their hands and hearts beyond the tarmac, contributing zealously to the Supply Drive at Circuit of the Americas, escorting school supplies into the arms of those 2,000 families and also raising $1,233 to purchase more, all this showcases the airport's commitment to buoying the local community as much as it does to its passengers' journeys.
