Austin's HOPE Outdoor Gallery, the paint-splattered art park that shut down in 2019, is back in action on a sprawling new campus near the airport. The revived site brings back the walk-up, paint-your-own mural walls that turned the original into a local legend, and layers on an indoor gallery and event space. Fresh murals are already going up, and a new wave of community programs is in the works.
New Home Near the Airport
The reimagined gallery now spreads out over roughly 17 acres and includes a 6,000-square-foot indoor gallery, outdoor mural walls, a café and an art-supply shop. It is part curated art space, part open playground for anyone with a sketch and a spray can. Organizers designed the layout to handle everything from massive installations to everyday walk-up sessions, according to KUT.
From Downtown To Dalton Lane
The move has been years in the making. The original Castle Hill spot downtown closed to clear the way for condos, kicking off a long search for a new home. C.K. Chin, the gallery's director of hospitality, told KEYE Austin that the team focused on protecting the open-canvas, come-as-you-are energy of the first site while finally building in enough room for programming and events.
What To Expect On A Visit
The gallery officially reopened last fall with a public grand opening on Nov. 28, 2025, and now operates at 741 Dalton Lane. The new campus is free to visit and open to all, according to Community Impact. Organizers say the schedule will grow to include workshops, kids' camps and private-event rentals as the space settles into a regular rhythm.
Keeping The Old Spirit
To keep the connection to its roots, pieces of the original Baylor Street location have been moved into the new gallery. A dedicated tribute wall nods to that first hillside canvas, a relaunch the team describes as "same heart, new home," according to MySanAntonio. Supporters say those touches help tie the more formal campus to the improvisational, democratic feel that made HOPE a must-visit spot in the first place.
Plan Your Visit
HOPE's official site spells out visitor details, programming and an events calendar, and the team says hours and offerings will expand through the year as new partnerships and classes come online.
