A somber mood has settled over the Baltimore County Police Department as Detective P. Hoke, a stalwart member of the force for three decades, remains under medical care following a collapse during his voluntary overtime shift on the evening of New Year’s Eve. According to WMAR-2 News, the incident took place around 7:30 pm at the Precinct 6 station, where Hoke was found unconscious, swiftly resulting in his hospitalization.
As reported by NottinghamMD, the police department, which routinely offers its officers the chance to volunteer for overtime shifts for up to 30 days in advance or, if necessary, on the day of the event, is now encouraging the local community to extend their support and prayers for Detective Hoke, who has dedicated his career to serving the public.
Detective Hoke's connections to the Baltimore County Police extend beyond his own service; he is the son of Robert Hoke, a veteran of the department who is now retired. In a profound expression of solidarity, Chief Robert McCullough made a public statement, as NottinghamMD recounted, describing the department's collective concern and deep respect for the detective, saying, "Our hearts are with Detective P. Hoke and his family," and praised Detective Hoke's dedicated service by adding, "It is dedicated members like Detective Hoke who make the Baltimore County Police Department such a world-class agency."
Although the exact cause of Detective Hoke’s sudden medical emergency is still unknown, it highlights the intense demands placed on law enforcement officers, who often work long hours to protect their communities.
