
A fatal collision on Interstate 95 has resulted in charges against a Baltimore man. Early Sunday morning, Michael Coupet was allegedly driving in the wrong direction when his Toyota Sequoia collided head-on with a Chrysler Pacifica, claiming two lives and critically injuring two others. FOX Baltimore reported that the incident occurred near Maryland Route 216.
Per the Maryland State Police, Coupet is facing multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter, homicide by motor vehicle under the influence, and other alcohol-related offenses. Authorities identified Coupet as having been driving around 2:45 a.m. and subsequently arrested him; he is now held without bond. These events took a tragic turn, leading to the unwarranted death of passengers Venkata Asha Khanna Appana and Krishna Kishore Koti Kalapudi, residents of Marvin, North Carolina, according to a statement obtained by CBS News Baltimore.
The accident caused a temporary but significant disruption on I-95, resulting in lane closures for over two hours as the Maryland State Police Crash Team conducted their investigation, aided by the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration for traffic control and road closures.
Among the injured were two additional passengers; a 21-year-old was transported to a trauma center by ambulance, while a 16-year-old had to be flown out by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command.
