In a notable development within the Bensalem Township Police Department, a significant leadership role has been filled after a lengthy two-and-a-half-decade hiatus. Veteran officer Robert Bugsch has been officially advanced to the station of Captain, as was declared on the department’s social media platform. This promotion marks a return of the Captain's rank to the organizational structure of the force, a position that had lain dormant since its last tenure.
With a robust career spanning three decades, Bugsch’s experience in law enforcement—23 years committed to Bensalem and an additional seven in Apache Junction, Arizona—is set to solidly enhance the leadership team of the department. His rise through the ranks has seen him command multiple divisions, influence being exerted over Professional Services, Motor Patrol, the Special Investigations Unit, and SWAT. In a statement retrieved from the Bensalem Police Department post, it is affirmed that Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo and Director of Public Safety William McVey expressed pride at announcing Bugsch's well-earned raise in rank.
Beyond his authoritative duties, Captain Bugsch also actively engages in community-oriented activities. He helps to yearly organize the Bucks County Tour of Honor for Veterans, additionally lending a hand in various events that support the Bucks County Hero Scholarship Fund. His educational credentials include being an alumnus of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety Staff and Command School (2012) and the Police Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for Police (2021).
Appreciation was also extended by the Bensalem Police Department to Mayor DiGirolamo and the Township Council for backing the promotion. Attendance from members of the Philadelphia Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies at the event was gratefully acknowledged. The Bensalem Police Department invites the community to join them in congratulating Captain Bugsch on what is described as an "achievement." They extend their best wishes as he prepares to shoulder his new responsibilities.
