In what's being described as a crucial community outreach effort, the Blendon Township Police Department has begun a methodical check-up on the area's most vulnerable citizens amidst a brutal snowstorm and power outage. The Blendon Township Police Department announced via social media that officers are currently visiting the elderly and disabled residents of Huber Ridge, prioritizing those who may face life-threatening issues due to the extreme weather conditions and loss of heat or means of transportation.
"Due to the snow emergency (still level 3) and Huber Ridge power outage, Blendon Township police officers have started our process of checking on our vulnerable, elderly and disabled population in Huber Ridge," stated the Blendon Township Police Department's post. The department has urged members of the community to first try reaching out to those they suspect might be at risk. If direct contact isn't possible, they've provided a radio dispatcher number, 614-889-9494, for residents to request well-being checks. The department has asked for detailed information on the person’s state, including any pressing health or medical concerns.
These well-being checks, being coordinated alongside the fire department, are critical in ensuring that the most susceptible members of the township are not left to battle the ongoing emergency alone. Chief Belford has emphasized that while these checks are prioritized, they may experience delays due to first responders handling other emergency situations in the area.
The Blendon Township Police Department has been clear in its communications that response times could vary, asking for patience as they clear through emergent issues. "Please keep in mind, first responders are still working other emergency issues in addition to well-being checks. Well-being checks will have high priority, but may be delayed by other emergency situations," they explained through their official channel. Residents are reassured that once the more pressing emergencies are addressed, the police will promptly resume the well-being checks.
