The Brad Simpson murder trial, initially set to commence soon, has been delayed by at least 60 days following a judge's ruling during a pre-trial hearing on Tuesday. According to KENS 5, the prosecutors have sought to carefully review a substantial amount of new evidence that has been continuously gathered since last fall's deadline for discovery.
Brad Simpson stands accused of the disappearance and presumed murder of his wife, Suzanne Simpson, an Olmos Park mother who was last seen alive in October 2024. The ongoing investigation has yet to recover her body. Defense attorneys, in turn, have successfully requested to get access to the personnel files of three officers involved in the case, which the judge has ordered to be subpoenaed and privily reviewed to decide on the relevance to the defense.
Further complicating the pre-trial proceedings, the prosecution has requested an additional hearing to deliberate on the admission of certain statements made by Suzanne Simpson as evidence at trial. Meanwhile, defense attorneys have indicated their intent to formally oppose this proposition. The new trial date remains pending as the court continues to navigate through these pre-trial motions.
As reported by FOX San Antonio, the case against Simpson has involved extensive searches across several counties and the analysis of digital and physical evidence. Notably, an indictment alleges that Simpson engaged in actions "did commit an act clearly dangerous to human life that caused the death of Suzanne Simpson, by a manner and means unknown to the grand jury." resulting in Suzanne's death through unknown means and attempted to conceal evidence, including a motorized saw with Suzanne's DNA on it and a fully automatic firearm not registered to the ATF.
The case has attracted significant attention due to the grisly nature of the alleged murder and the meticulous efforts by Simpson to allegedly cover up his actions. This includes multiple instances of on/off cell phone cycling described in the affidavit as attempts to avoid detection. With the latest court developments, KENS 5 has committed to provide updates on the trial as they become available, tracking the twists and turns of this high-profile case.
