Two armed robberies targeting women at busy shopping centers in and around Calabasas have residents rattled, and as of Thursday night, no arrests have been made. In one case, a shopper in Calabasas lost a designer purse after being knocked to the ground. In another, a woman in nearby Westlake Village faced the barrel of a gun during an attempted carjacking. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department say they are actively investigating and have not confirmed whether the two incidents are connected.
Attack At The Commons In Calabasas
According to KTLA, the first robbery unfolded Wednesday night at the Commons at Calabasas, located at 4799 Commons Way. Sheriff’s investigators say a man pushed a woman to the ground and snatched her Louis Vuitton purse before taking off. The suspect was described as a Black male. The victim told detectives the man mentioned having a handgun, though officials said it was not clear whether he actually had a weapon.
Officials said the two robberies happened roughly 10 miles apart, and investigators have been canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance footage as part of the probe, KTLA reported.
Attempted Carjacking In Westlake Village
As reported by ABC7, a separate confrontation in Westlake Village involved a suspect who drew a gun and pointed it at a woman during an attempted carjacking. The attacker ultimately fled without injuring the victim or stealing her vehicle.
Deputies from the Lost Hills station told ABC7 that investigators are following up on leads and that no arrests have been made in either incident so far.
What Investigators Are Saying
Sheriff’s Capt. Dustin Carr underscored just how unsettling these cases are for those involved. He told ABC7 that the crimes "definitely strike fear into our victims" and emphasized that armed robberies are taken very seriously within the Lost Hills jurisdiction.
Carr urged residents to remain alert while detectives continue to review surveillance footage, interview witnesses, and seek tips from the public.
Concerns Grow Over Crime Pattern At The Commons
Local reporting and recent station bulletins point to a rise in theft and shoplifting reports at the Commons at Calabasas. Deputies previously asked the public for help identifying a suspect after items were stolen from two cosmetic stores, according to FOX 11.
Community outlets have also tracked other vehicle and retail crimes in the surrounding area, amplifying concerns among shoppers about opportunistic theft in one of the region’s more affluent shopping hubs.
How To Help And Stay Safe
Investigators are asking anyone who may have information, cell phone video, or security footage from the shopping centers to contact the Lost Hills station or Crime Stoppers, according to KTLA.
Deputies recommend some straightforward precautions while the investigation continues, including parking in well-lit areas, walking with companions, and keeping valuables out of sight when heading to and from vehicles.
