In a case that has stunned the community of Flatbush, Brooklyn, a mother stands accused of concealing the corpse of her infant son. Gynae Kendall, 25, allegedly wrapped the body of her 1-month-old, Adonnys Kendall, in a duffel bag and placed it in a closet within her apartment. The disturbing discovery was made during a wellness check on Saturday evening, PIX11 reported.
Responding officers were alerted to a "strong odor" at the scene. Upon investigation, they found "the child was not breathing, his eyes were sunken, his skin was sloughing, and there was a strong odor of decomposition," according to documents obtained by the New York Post. Kendall initially misled officers by claiming that her son had not been present in the apartment for the preceding two weeks and that she did not know his whereabouts.
Following the grim discovery, Kendall was charged with concealment of a human corpse. She pled not guilty at her arraignment yesterday. A judge has since ordered a mental health evaluation and set her release under supervision, according to PIX11. The exact cause of death has yet to be confirmed, awaiting the results of an autopsy from the medical examiner's office.
The case has garnered significant attention due to the disturbing nature of the events described in court documents. Kendall is to next appear in court on May 26, and further charges may be forthcoming, pending the autopsy results. Prosecutors have noted that Kendall gave "varying inconsistent statements about the child's whereabouts," complicating the investigation. The father of the child, upon being questioned, denied having had the infant, which led officers to quickly return and search the apartment, unveiling the tragic situation, as reported by the New York Post.
