A Wexford County man is set to face trial on multiple charges of child sexual assault, as announced by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Michael Joseph Caillouet, 47, of Cadillac, is accused of sexually abusing a minor child during 2018 and 2019, and showing the child pornography. His extradition to Wexford County was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service from Butler County, Kansas, through Operation Survivor Justice—an initiative designed to address fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants, as outlined by the Michigan Attorney General's Office.
The charges against Caillouet, which include two counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) and one count of Exhibiting Sexually Explicit Material to a Minor, were filed by the Wexford County Prosecuting Attorney's Office in September 2025. During a preliminary examination, Judge Corey Wiggins heard testimonies and subsequently bound over Caillouet to stand trial, while also adding additional charges to the list. These additional charges include two more counts of First-Degree CSC, three counts of Second-Degree CSC, and another count of Exhibiting Sexually Explicit Material to a Minor.
Operation Survivor Justice is a collaborative effort between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service. This initiative reflects a commitment to apprehending those accused of sexual crimes and ensuring they are held accountable. In a statement obtained by the Michigan Attorney General's Office, Nessel commented on the importance of these partnerships, praising the survivors for their brave act of coming forward. "Survivors show tremendous courage in coming forward, and my office will keep relying on this collaboration to ensure that those accused of these serious offenses are brought back to Michigan to face their charges in court," she said.
The extradition and the subsequent legal proceedings underscore the measures being taken to address the heinous crime of child sexual abuse. Caillouet's next court appearance has yet to be scheduled. Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to follow through on leads that may connect to the case. The Wexford County Prosecuting Attorney's Office and the Attorney General's office continue to dedicate resources to Operation Survivor Justice, reaffirming their stance that no stone will be left unturned in the pursuit of justice for the victims of such crimes.
