A vehicle crashed into the front of the Sure Stay Plus motel on San Antonio's Northwest Side Friday, damaging part of the building but leaving everyone unharmed, officials say. Firefighters quickly secured the structure and launched an investigation.
Crews Stabilized the Building After Impact
San Antonio Fire Department units responded to the scene and secured a damaged load-bearing wall at the motel to prevent a collapse, as reported by KENS 5. Crews searched the affected area, checked for trapped occupants, and confirmed there were no injuries.
Officials have not yet released additional details about the driver, including whether any citations may follow. The cause of the crash was not immediately known, and an investigation is underway.
Where It Happened
The collision took place along the I-10 West frontage road near the Beckwith Boulevard exit on the city's Northwest Side. Hotel listings place the SureStay Plus at 13535 W Interstate 10, just off the highway, per MapQuest. Traffic around the exit was briefly affected while emergency crews worked the scene.
Local Context
Crashes that send vehicles directly into motel or hotel structures are rare, but San Antonio has seen it before. In 2017 an 18-wheeler left an access road and smashed into the entrance and parking area of a Northwest Side motel, causing major damage, according to the San Antonio Express-News. In that earlier case, investigators leaned on security camera footage and witness statements to piece together what happened.
For this latest incident, officials are expected to review any available video and interview witnesses to determine whether mechanical problems, driver error, or something else played a role. Authorities told KENS 5 that the case remains a developing story and that more information will be released as the probe continues.
The motel's operational status following the crash, along with the full extent of the damage to guest areas, has not yet been disclosed.
