Over the weekend, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted over $1.2 million in illegal narcotics at the Anzalduas International Bridge, seizing significant quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin. The first bust last Saturday involved a RAM 1500 truck carrying 32.18 pounds of cocaine, valued at around $1,119,000, discovered through advanced inspection equipment and a canine team, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director for Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas, praised his officers, saying, "Our CBP officers’ expertise with our tools and technology is second to none." These interceptions demonstrate the efforts of U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers to prevent illegal drugs from entering the U.S. through border crossings.
Officers stopped a Ford sedan at the Anzalduas International Bridge and found 22 packages of cocaine totaling 52.07 pounds, a 2.33-pound package of fentanyl worth $54,000, and two heroin packages weighing 4.58 pounds worth $87,000. The drugs and the vehicle were seized, and the driver was arrested. Homeland Security Investigations agents took the individual into custody and started a criminal investigation, as reported by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
