The City of Charlotte is inviting locals to weigh in on the next phase of community planning amid an ever-expanding urban landscape. With Charlotte's quickening pulse as a boomtown comes the Charlotte Future 2040 Community Area Plans, a series of neighborhood-level blueprints aimed at sculpting the city's growth. According to information reported by the City of Charlotte, seven of the ambitious 14 Community Area Plans have already received the green light from the Charlotte City Council back in November 2025.

Charlotte residents have a new opportunity to shape the city’s future through three community events in February. The gatherings will focus on the remaining seven plans, including the East Middle & Outer and North Inner areas. A user-friendly Find Your CAP map helps residents identify their relevant neighborhoods.

Residents interested in urban development can attend one of three workshops: February 12 at West Charlotte High School, a virtual session on February 17, and February 19 at Julius Chambers High School. Participants can discuss topics ranging from neighborhood preservation to reducing environmental impacts. Registration details are available in the city’s announcement.

A Community Area Planning Survey is now open for residents who want to provide input but cannot attend the workshops. Paper surveys are also available at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branches. Neighborhoods can request planning staff to attend local meetings by emailing [email protected].
