Angel Ventura Ayala, 27, was arrested in Clark County for allegedly throwing a cat against a wall and onto a parking lot, leading to charges of torturing and terrorizing an animal. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson responded, stating, "My office takes animal abuse cases seriously. We almost always get convictions and the appropriate punishment, depending on the facts and the circumstances of this case," according to KTNV

Ayala posted bail after his December 18, 2025 arrest and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on February 11. The case sparked widespread outrage, with a petition urging maximum penalties under the new Reba's Law, which classifies such offenses as a category B felony carrying one to six years in prison and fines up to $10,000.

The Clark County District Attorney’s office reported a strong community response to the case of State vs. Angel Ayala, describing it as "overwhelming." DA Wolfson said, "I have received many, many emails concerning the case of State vs. Angel Ayala. I have personally spoken with the assigned prosecutor, and I’m confident that we will achieve the appropriate amount of justice in this case." He also said, "I am an animal lover as well. I have three dogs whom I care for deeply. I’m involved in almost every animal abuse case personally," as reported by 8 News Now. Activists, including John Waudby of Nevada Animal Advocates, started a petition regarding public concern, and the community continues to follow the case as the court date approaches.
