Houston golfers looking to sneak in a virtual round at Sawyer Yards are officially out of luck. Loft18, the golf-themed sports bar and simulator lounge that opened at the artsy campus in 2019, quietly shut its Houston doors yesterday. Regulars and event planners who leaned on the spot for leagues, private parties, and simulated rounds were caught off guard by the sudden farewell.
The closure was first reported by KHOU, which shared the owners' message that "this isn’t the end" and that Loft18 intends to return to the Houston market at some point down the road. The station noted an update to its report at 7:33 a.m. CST today.
Owners Cite Crime And Rising Costs
According to the Houston Chronicle, the owners explained their decision in a letter posted to the business's Facebook page, pointing to increased crime around Sawyer Yards and rising market costs as key factors. "This was not an easy choice for us," they wrote. The Chronicle also reported that Loft18's four Louisiana locations will remain open while the company "regroups" and works on its next phase.
Where It Sat
The Houston outpost operated at 2313 Edwards St., Suite 200, inside the Shops at Sawyer Yards, per the campus tenant directory from Sawyer Yards. The Houston page on Loft18 described the space as an interactive sports bar built around Full Swing golf simulator bays, with leagues and event bookings available for players of all levels.
Plans To Return
The Houston Chronicle coverage noted that the owners are already scouting other parts of the metro area, including Katy, The Woodlands and Sugar Land. They have even floated potential re-openings in 2027 or 2028. For now, they are asking customers and partners to keep an eye on the brand's official channels while they look for locations that better match their idea of a family-friendly environment.
Local Scene And Next Steps
Loft18's exit pulls a quirky, sports-heavy entertainment option out of a campus that has grown into a hub for breweries, restaurants, and creative businesses. Its 2019 arrival was covered by local food press, including Eater Houston, and later popped up in a Hoodline roundup of the freshest new businesses to open in the city that year. The shutdown highlights how operating costs and safety concerns are increasingly shaping where experiential venues decide they can sustainably set up shop.
Customers with upcoming bookings, leagues or gift cards are being asked to check the official Loft18 site for details on refunds or rebooking options; the Houston booking page lists the most current contact and booking information. We will update this piece if the owners confirm a new Houston address or a firm timeline for a return.
