Crowley is about to get a taste of one of Fort Worth's most loyal followings. Fred's Texas Cafe, the long-running burger spot known for its Fred Burger and chicken-fried steak, is heading to downtown Crowley for its first-ever location outside Fort Worth city limits. The new cafe is set to open on Jan. 27, with organizers planning a midday ribbon cutting alongside city officials as neighbors are invited to sample the menu.
Opening Day And Hours
According to CultureMap Fort Worth, the new Fred's will operate at 101 N Magnolia St., with the ribbon cutting scheduled for 12 noon on opening day. The outlet reports regular hours will run from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.
How The Move Unfolded
Fred's first revealed its southward move in summer 2024, when the company signed a lease for a Main Street building. Early coverage pegged the space at roughly 4,800 square feet, according to Fort Worth Inc. The Crowley cafe joins two existing Fort Worth locations, Camp Bowie West and Western Center, as listed on Fred's Texas Cafe.
Historic Building Gets A Makeover
Per CultureMap Fort Worth, the Crowley outpost fills a building with deep local roots. The structure dates back to 1887, when it housed the Hays Brothers General Store and Post Office. It later became the Clover Farm Store in 1919, was rebuilt in brick in 1925 and eventually operated as Legg's Super Saver from 1957 to 1976. CultureMap reports that Fred's added the remainder of the dining room while preserving the historic fabric. The finished space comes in at about 6,200 square feet, with seating for 220 inside and a planned 60-seat covered patio.
What To Expect On The Menu
Diners can look for Fred's staples: the Fred Burger, hand-cut fries and buttermilk-battered chicken-fried steak, along with beer on tap, sides and other crowd-pleasing plates, per the chain's menu and its listing on Fred's Texas Cafe. The Crowley restaurant will mirror the Fort Worth locations with the same casual, order-at-the-counter format.
Why Crowley Cares
City leaders are framing the arrival of Fred's as a vote of confidence in downtown Crowley's ongoing revitalization, noting that a new restaurant is expected to bring jobs and foot traffic to Main Street. Fort Worth Inc. reported that officials welcomed the investment and the potential for increased activity in the city's core.
