What started as a late-night alarm at a Mount Pleasant pawn shop ended with five Dallas residents in handcuffs and property tied to a second burglary, according to local police. Officers say they rolled up on an active break-in at B&W Pawn, caught suspects slipping out through a hole cut in the back of the building, and then fanned out through nearby streets to track them down. Mount Pleasant authorities said the arrests effectively wrapped up an active investigation, and all five were booked into the Titus County Jail.
How police say the break-in unfolded
Late Sunday night, Mount Pleasant dispatchers received a motion alarm from B&W Pawn on West Ferguson Road. Officers arrived within minutes and reported seeing lights and movement inside the shop. Police say three people were confronted as they crawled out of a hole cut in the rear of the business, dropped merchandise, and bolted toward a nearby neighborhood. The initial call came in around 11:30 to 11:40 p.m., according to KLTV.
Where officers found the suspects
As officers swept the area, they say they found two people sitting in a parked vehicle on South O’Tyson Road. A short time later, two more were located waiting for a ride at a Tiger Mart on West Ferguson Road, and all four were arrested on the spot. A fifth suspect did not stay off the radar for long. That person was identified and detained the next morning after investigators narrowed their search, Mount Pleasant police told CBS19.
Detectives link a suspect to a second break-in
Authorities say the fifth individual was taken into custody Monday morning along the Bill Ratliff Freeway. Property recovered from that suspect matched items reported missing from Expectant Heart on East Ferguson Road, investigators said. Detectives believe that haul ties the person to an earlier, previously unreported burglary and helps round out the case, according to KTRE.
Who was arrested and the alleged charges
Mount Pleasant police identified the five people booked into jail as Tyron Allen, 26; Frank Hammond, 35; Decorious Kavontae Morgan, 22; Rodney Dewayne White, 39; and Uluas Demarrquez Woodside, 33, all listed as Dallas residents. Officers say the group faces charges that include burglary of a building and related offenses. Hammond is also accused of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance, according to KLTV.
What comes next
All five suspects remain in the Titus County Jail while the Titus County District Attorney's Office reviews the case. Mount Pleasant police publicly thanked the Titus County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Public Safety for helping with the overnight response and follow-up investigation, according to KTRE. Investigators are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
