The Detroit People Mover, an elevated monorail serving downtown Detroit, will temporarily suspend service on January 4, for scheduled maintenance. The one-day interruption is intended to address corrugation on the steel rail track, reducing noise and improving ride comfort. Regular service is expected to resume on January 5, according to Detroit Free Press.
Officials from the Detroit Transportation Corporation told Detroit Free Pass that the maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to provide a quieter, smoother, and more comfortable ride for passengers. The People Mover, which has offered complimentary rides since 2024, was closed for about 10 days last November to install a new track switch as part of continuous system improvements.
To support transit infrastructure improvements and address future transportation needs, the Detroit People Mover will hold public community meetings. The meetings will cover the Detroit People Mover System Plan and the Downtown Mobility Study. One in-person meeting is scheduled for January 14, at the Central Michigan University Detroit Center.
Those seeking updates on service or community input meetings can find more information on the Detroit People Mover Facebook page.
