The Detroit community is reeling after a violent attack outside Chita’s Nefertiti Bar and Lounge left one man dead and his brother critically injured. The Detroit Police Department is actively seeking the public's assistance to identify a woman they believe to be responsible for the initial stabbing in the incident that occurred on Grand River near Greenfield. According to ClickOnDetroit, the attack took place at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, resulting in the death of Jalen Stevens, a 28-year-old father of four, and the stabbing of his brother, Glenn Stevens, who remains in critical condition.
In the aftermath of the incident, police quickly took Michael Harris into custody, charging him with first-degree murder, felony firearm, and resisting arrest. As the investigation continues to unfold, authorities are making appeals to anyone who might be able to bring clarity to the identity of the woman connected with the stabbing. Those with information have been urged to reach out to the Detroit Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
The grief felt by the Stevens family echoes throughout their community, where a vigil brought hundreds of supporters together, as reported by CBS Detroit. Jeneen Coats, the mother of the two men, shared her profound loss, saying, "He had the most beautiful smile in the world, and he was an excellent father. These kids are going to miss their daddy." The vigil was a powerful demonstration of the affection and esteem the community held for Jalen and Glenn Stevens, with Jeneen Coats stating, "My boys are loved, they are really loved. Great men."
Despite the arrest of Harris, the family's quest for complete justice remains unfulfilled. They continue to implore the public and law enforcement for assistance in finding the other individuals involved in the altercation, as stated by the Stevens' sister, Kiarra Moore, obtained by CBS Detroit: "The other guys who stabbed my brothers are still out there, and we want justice. Please give us justice for Jalen and Glenn." Meanwhile, in a statement, Jeneen Stevens, the mother of Jalen, told WXYZ about Jalen, "He's an excellent father. His kids love him dearly, and he loves his kids," reflecting the deep personal impact of the tragedy.
