A fatal rollover crash occurred yesterday on northbound I-75 at the Schaefer Highway exit in Detroit, claiming the life of a driver whose identity remains undisclosed. The incident, recorded at approximately 2:10 p.m., involved a single passenger vehicle that failed to navigate the curve of the exit ramp, leading to a tragic accident.
According to reports from CBS News Detroit, the vehicle involved went off the roadway onto the left shoulder's grassy area before colliding with a metal guardrail and overturning onto its roof. Authorities declared the driver dead at the scene. Michigan State Police have stated that speed was a factor in the crash, and it was determined that the driver was not secured by a seatbelt.
First Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police told Audacy that he has an ongoing concern, saying, "We continue to see excessive speed lead to traffic crashes." The crash led to the temporary closure of both the Schaefer and northbound I-75 ramps to facilitate an investigation; though, they have since been reopened.
Details from New Media Detroit include confirmation from authorities that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Michigan State Police have also highlighted the commitment to an ongoing investigation to determine further details about the crash and the driver's identity. As more information surfaces, updates are expected to follow.
