Dori, a charming six-year-old Bernadoodle and certified Fire Department K9, is currently vying for the title in Light Ohio Blue's "Fur Responder" Photo Contest, according to a social media post from the Washington Township Fire Department-Dublin OH. The public is encouraged to cast their votes in support of Dori bringing the honor home through the contest website.
Not only has Dori achieved the distinction of being the first K9 certified through the Franklin County Sheriff's Department Training Academy, but she is also one of only a few nationally to hold this recognition, her skills aren't just paraded in uniform for the sake of ceremony, instead they are woven into the very fabric of community care, Dori participates in training sessions at Station 91 with new K9 classes, alongside her handler Firefighter Angela Holmes and engages quarterly with Delaware County Therapy K9s, Delaware County Sheriff's Office, and the Genoa Police Department, as highlighted by the Washington Township Fire Department.
Dori's responsibilities extend far beyond the typical expectations of a therapy dog, with her presence offering solace to firefighters' families in mourning, students reeling from tragedy, and to her peers as an integral part of the Metro Fire Peer Support Team. Her training has carried her from land to sea, in facilities as varied as boats, heliports, zoos, and many other locations across Columbus.
Community support plays a crucial role in Dori's journey as she contends for recognition in the "Fur Responder" Photo Contest, with each individual eligible to vote once per day, this furry friend has garnered admiration from citizens touched by her service and from those who recognize the profound impact a therapy animal can have within the fabric of a healing community, as the Washington Township Fire Department eagerly encourages public participation to showcase their backing for Dori.
