After a tense lockdown due to an anonymous threat, East Knox Local Schools are set to reopen this Wednesday — albeit under a cloak of heightened security. Measures like an increased law enforcement presence, the installation of weapons detectors, and revisions to arrivals and student support are expected to reassure a nervous community rattled by Monday's scary episode.

According to a report by WBNS, the original threat came via a chilling phone call on Monday, in which an individual claimed to be armed and ready to enter the high school. This prompted an immediate lockdown of both the high school and the nearby elementary school, followed by a swift response from multiple law enforcement agencies to secure the campuses.

In a statement obtained by Your Ohio News, Superintendent Richard Baird thanked students, staff, families, and especially local law enforcement for their ability to enact preparedness procedures and partnerships. "The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority, and today’s response reflected the importance of preparation and partnership," stated Baird in the aftermath of the lockdown.

While the incident left the community on edge, as the district initiated their reunification plan, anxious parents were eventually able to collect their students, unharmed, at a designated location. Despite the resolve and swift action of the school and responders, Knox County Sheriff Daniel Weckesser did not mince words about the mental toll of such incidents, telling ABC6 that, "They did a great job and I just think it shows how good our community is and how much time we've spent training... and we've trained for these situations. But we've prayed that nothing ever seriously happens."
