Everett Fire Department responded to reports of an apartment fire at Nova North Apartments, 8530 10th Ave W, after multiple 911 callers reported smoke coming from a ground-floor unit last Friday. Firefighters arriving on the scene found smoke billowing from a sliding glass door and quickly worked to extinguish the flames.

South County Fire Engine 11 was the first to arrive on scene and, while fighting the fire, located a man in his 70s inside the smoke-filled apartment. Firefighters provided emergency life-saving measures, including CPR, which successfully restored his pulse. According to the City of Everett, he was transported in critical condition to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

In addition to the elderly resident, a maintenance worker in his 30s had entered the apartment before firefighters arrived in an attempt to reach the man. The worker was transported for evaluation due to smoke inhalation. Everett Fire crews contained and extinguished the fire in the bedroom, preventing it from spreading to nearby units, and confirmed that no other individuals were affected.

On a day already marked by a five-vehicle collision resulting in two fatalities, the fire incident required rapid coordination of resources with support from neighboring departments. The Everett Fire Department acknowledged assistance from South County Fire, Mukilteo Fire, and other mutual aid partners in covering the city while managing both critical incidents simultaneously.

Amid the incident, Everett Fire officials reminded residents of the importance of functioning smoke alarms, which provided an early warning at Nova North Apartments. The department advised installing alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on each floor, and recommended testing them monthly. In a fire, residents are urged to evacuate immediately and call 911 from a safe location, avoiding re-entry. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Everett Fire Marshal’s Office.
