An hours-long standoff in a Greene County neighborhood culminated in the arrest of a man who had reportedly barricaded himself inside a residence, according to authorities. News Center 7 Daybreak first reported the incident, which started around 9:36 p.m. outside a home at the 1500 block of Superior Avenue in Fairborn.
Details from the Fairborn Police Department, obtained by Dayton Daily News, indicate that what was initially reported as a possible domestic dispute escalated when the man refused to exit the building, leading to the Regional Emergency Response Team's deployment. Surrounded by police lights and the sound of loud sirens, negotiators worked throughout the night to resolve the situation peacefully.
Eventual compliance was secured as the individual, who has not been named, stepped out of his stronghold early Wednesday morning. He was reportedly taken into custody without further incident. "After a while, the man exited and was placed under arrest for numerous active warrants as well as fresh charges," stated the Fairborn Police Department, as reported by Dayton Daily News.
The standoff, which unfolded over several nerve-wracking hours, drew a sizeable law enforcement presence to the otherwise quiet neighborhood. WDTN reports stated that multiple agencies were on scene, their efforts culminating in the arrest of the man who had several active warrants out for his arrest, according to a press release. Additional charges on top of the existing warrants were also levied against the suspect, although the full range of the new allegations has not been disclosed at this time.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the standoff, and further details may be released pending the ongoing inquiry. No injuries or additional arrests have been reported in connection with the incident. The neighborhood has since returned to calm as police continue to piece together the events of the night.
