
A longtime Oak Ridge High School band teacher is behind bars after his arrest yesterday on multiple counts alleging sexual abuse of a minor, authorities said. Paul Varoff, who led bands at Oak Ridge in El Dorado Hills for decades, was booked into the El Dorado County jail and is currently ineligible for bail. Court records list a hearing set for Wednesday.
Arrest And Charges
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office arrested Varoff on Monday and booked him into custody. He faces five counts of oral copulation of a person under 18 and five counts of sexual penetration of a person under 18, according to KCRA. The sheriff's office states that Varoff is not eligible for bail at this time.
Longtime Band Director
Varoff spent decades as a music educator in El Dorado County, directing Oak Ridge High School's marching band and other ensembles. Public payroll records indicate he was employed by the El Dorado Union High School District as recently as 2022, according to Transparent California. Oak Ridge High School is listed as part of the El Dorado Union High School District by the California Department of Education.

Varoff is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, where the case will move into the local superior court system, officials said. Sheriff's detectives are leading the investigation.
