On Sunday, an aggressive structure fire engulfed a one-story home in Fort Worth's Southside neighborhood, forcing firefighters to mount a swift offensive against the flames. The Fort Worth Fire Department reported via a social media post that crews were dispatched to the 1800 block of St. Louis Avenue at 5:24 am, where they were met with heavy fire at the rear of the residence that threatened to consume the structure and spread to adjacent properties.
Upon their hasty arrival just three minutes later, firefighters encountered flames rapidly traveling from the back to the front of the house and endangering a neighboring home, although no occupants were found inside the burning structure, the firefighting team launched an interior attack in an attempt to quell the inferno but had to retreat when the evacuation tone rang out as the roof threatened collapse, compelling a shift to defensive tactics from safe exterior positions to continue their effort.
The ordeal lasted nearly 40 minutes before the blaze was reigned in—with firefighters actively combating the flames from the outside, this included manually knocking over a dangerously leaning chimney, ensuring it no longer posed a threat to the crew's safety. Despite the intense situation, the neighbor's property only incurred minor damage thanks to the fire department's diligent efforts to prevent further spread.
