Months after two men were found shot to death near Compton Creek under the 710 Freeway, Long Beach police say they now have four people in custody in connection with the killings, a grim case that initially drew attention because both victims appeared to be experiencing homelessness.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers responded on Aug. 6, 2025, at approximately 8:36 p.m. to the area of Compton Creek and the 710 Freeway after Long Beach Fire Department personnel located a body. When officers arrived, they found two adult men with gunshot wounds to the upper body. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and homicide detectives launched an investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Arrests and suspects
Police this week announced that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the homicides, as reported by KTLA. Authorities identified the suspects as Jesus Arredondo, 40; Stephen Lee Talbot, 42; Timothy Garcia, 35; and a 17-year-old whose name has not been released because of his age.
Investigators say Arredondo was arrested on Jan. 15, Talbot and Garcia were arrested on Jan. 16, and the juvenile suspect was taken into custody on Jan. 9 in Carson. Booking records reviewed by KTLA show Arredondo’s bail set at $1 million, with bail for the other three suspects set at $2 million each.
Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish credited the months-long investigation, saying the arrests “exemplify the focus, expertise and commitment of our homicide detectives,” according to KTLA. Police said detectives followed leads that took them across Los Angeles County before making the arrests.
What investigators say
Detectives plan to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. In the meantime, the department is still looking for any additional information that might help shore up the case.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Homicide Detectives Juan Carlos Reyes or Jesus Espinoza at 562-570-7244. Anonymous tips may be submitted through L.A. Local context
The victims were found near what appeared to be a homeless encampment under the freeway, a detail reported by NBC Los Angeles. The double homicide has fed into wider concerns about violence in riverbeds, underpasses and other hidden spaces, and it has renewed calls for more resources and outreach for people living in those vulnerable corridors.
