The town of Franklin is experiencing a disruption in its computer network, but officials say emergency services are not affected. According to a social media post by the Town of Franklin, IT staff took immediate action to secure the systems and reported the incident to the North Carolina Joint Cybersecurity Task Force.
While the cause and extent of the disruption are still under investigation, Franklin authorities have activated emergency preparedness plans to keep life safety services operational. Contingency measures were followed, and emergency services remained fully functional throughout the incident. Town operations continue during normal hours, though with limited capabilities due to restricted access to certain systems. The post also noted that no state or other government systems appear to have been affected.
Efforts to restore Franklin’s computer systems are ongoing, with staff collaborating with network restoration experts to resolve the issues. Town of Franklin stated they are taking “all steps necessary, required, and permitted of our municipality to restore our systems and to comply with applicable law.” They also noted that both the restoration and the investigation will take time and asked for the community’s patience during the process.
Information on the cause of the disruption and the restoration process remains limited, with additional updates expected in the coming days and weeks.
