Residents of Frisco faced significant disruptions as icy conditions led to widespread closures across the city yesterday. In a move to prioritize public safety amidst the treacherous weather, the Frisco Public Library and Frisco Athletic Center remained shut, scrapping plans for modified operating hours. A statement on the City of Frisco highlighted the closures and advised the community on winter safety and the effects on city services.
All city buildings, including City Hall and the Collin County Tax Office, were closed, with the city staff adopting remote operations to keep up with calls and emails. Despite the icy hold on physical locations, Frisco residents were urged to utilize online services for tasks like making utility billing payments and handling plans and permits. Frisco's Municipal Court also cancelled all dockets slated for Tuesday, with those impacted to be notified about rescheduled appearances.
Key public meetings didn't escape the icy clutch of the weather, with the Frisco Community Development Corporation and Planning & Zoning Commission meetings scheduled for yesterday, alongside the Frisco Economic Development Corporation and Natural Resources Advisory Board meetings today, all being cancelled. The conditions also interrupted the electoral process, with early voting for the January 31 Special Election on pause due to all polling locations being closed.
Frisco's environmental services faced challenges as well, with the regular trash and recycling collection schedule being tossed aside. According to the City of Frisco's update, only trash bins were slated to be emptied for the rest of the week, asking residents to brave the conditions and move their bins curbside before 7 a.m. if it was deemed safe. However, collection issues persisted, with the possibility of service delays extending an additional day.
Those who had scheduled bulk trash collection for the week were given a modified schedule to follow, with collections pushed back to accommodate the delays. Frisco city officials extended gratitude to the community for their patience and provided multiple contact methods, including the MyFrisco App, for reporting missed services or seeking additional assistance.
