In a move aimed at safeguarding the financial integrity of child care services in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has called for an intensive scrutiny of the system to root out any instances of fraud related to child care funding. As outlined in a press release posted on his official website, Abbott urged state agencies to beef up their precautionary measures against the misuse of taxpayer dollars designated for subsidizing child care. Any potential irregularities unearthed by recent reports appear to have spurred this directive.
"Such fraud will never be tolerated in Texas," Abbott stated in his official communication on the Office of the Texas Governor website. He referenced the efforts put forth by former President Trump's administration and investigative journalism that brought to light possible systematic abuses in other states, like Minnesota. This revelation seems to have ignited a sense of urgency to ensure a similar fate does not befall the Texas Child Care Services Program.
Following the guidelines provided by the Governor, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), together with the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), are expected to coordinate to introduce enhanced anti-fraud protocols. Their objective is clear: elevate the state's capability to detect and dismantle any fraudulent activities connected to child care funding before they can siphon off resources meant for the well-being of Texas children.
