In an incident that happened early Wednesday morning, a 28-year-old Green Bay woman led police on a high-speed pursuit in Fond du Lac County, reaching speeds up to 130 mph. The chase, which spanned 13 miles, resulted in damages to three squad vehicles and ended with the woman being taken into custody.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office reported that a deputy initiated the pursuit around 2:20 a.m. after clocking the suspect's vehicle traveling significantly over the speed limit on State Highway 26 near Fremont Road. According to FOX6Now, tire deflation devices were deployed near County Highway TC, causing the vehicle to lose a tire, however, the driver continued to flee even after the vehicle had been damaged.
The chase escalated as the woman drove through the Village of Rosendale, surpassing 100 mph and weaving past other vehicles, WISN described. Eventually, the pursuit ended when deputies performed a moving roadblock on a farm access road to prevent the vehicle from entering a residential area.
After stopping the vehicle, deputies attempted to detain the driver. Deputies were required to break the driver-side window to extract her, said the Fond du Lac Sheriff's Office, as she was non-compliant and refused to exit the vehicle. Continuing to resist arrest, she was ultimately subdued with a Taser, as detailed by WBAY.
The suspect now faces charges including felony fleeing/eluding, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, and resisting/obstructing an officer, in addition to a citation for egregious speeding. This high-stakes incident raises ongoing concerns regarding public safety on the roadways and the dangers inherent in high-speed pursuits. The woman was booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail following her arrest.
