A Guatemalan national, Albaro Chacon, has been sentenced to a stiff 15-17 years in prison for his violent attempt to assault his children's mother, a sentencing declared by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, an announcement made yesterday. Chacon, aged 38, was convicted on charges including Attempted Assault in the First Degree for the November 2024 incident where he stabbed the victim, as detailed in evidence presented during the trial.

The attack, as described by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, was particularly harrowing, the victim woken by Chacon brandishing a knife and attempting to stab her while he uttered the chilling words “you are going to die here,” according to the victim's account, she fought back, sustaining multiple stab wounds to her arm, and in the frightening moments that followed she saw her children, aged six and five, in Chacon’s vehicle, who, unbeknownst to her, had been put there prior to the attack.

Following her effort to escape and seek help, the victim discovered signs of Chacon's attempt to conceal the crime, including a thoroughly cleaned blood-stained area and a strong bleach odor, with the sheets where the stabbing occurred having been hastily removed. The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office report noted Chacon’s additional conviction on charges of Assault in the Second Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Outside the court, after the sentence was handed down, District Attorney Tierney said, “Nothing about this case was easy, and nothing can undo the harm that was done," and emphasized that the sentence reflects the seriousness of the trauma suffered by the victim and her children, after a trial that culminated on November 19, 2025, Chacon, who was represented by Danielle Papa, Esq., was convicted of multiple felonies and misdemeanors by Acting Supreme Court Justice Anthony S. Senft, Jr., and this case has now been brought to a close with support from Suffolk County Police Department Detective John Tighe, of the Third Squad and Assistant District Attorney Zachary Kelly of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau, as noted by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
