A harrowing escape from a house fire in Middle River was caught on video early yesterday morning, as neighbors rallied together to save a mother and her two children from their burning home. According to footage from a Ring doorbell camera reported by Fox Baltimore, residents of the 400 block of Kosoak Road were seen sprinting out of their houses to aid the family, with one man notably catching two children dropped from a second-story window.

The blaze, which inflicted minor injuries on the mother and her children, prompted those nearby to take immediate action, flagging down cars for assistance and searching for ladders, before the fire department's arrival. WMAR2 News shared doorbell camera footage that captures the dramatic rescue in progress. Officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire, which also claimed the life of a dog inside the residence.

Baltimore County Fire Chief Joseph Dixon expressed gratitude towards the helping neighbors in a statement obtained by Fox Baltimore, “This incident is a powerful reminder of the strength of our communities,” he said, “Before our fire and EMS crews arrived, neighbors acted without hesitation to help a mother and her children escape a dangerous situation. I want to thank these residents for their courage and selflessness and commend our crews for their swift response in extinguishing the fire and providing medical support.” The mother and children have since been treated and released from a nearby hospital.

Information on fire safety tips and how residents can get free smoke alarms is available through the Baltimore County Fire Department’s Community Risk Reduction program, although the cause of the fire remains under detailed investigation.
