Early Wednesday morning, a series of events unfolded in South Los Angeles, leading to a high-speed chase and a subsequent manhunt for burglary suspects. According to NBC Los Angeles, the incident began at approximately 4:40 a.m. when at least five individuals were observed removing boxes from a warehouse on the 1100 block of 32nd Street and loading them into a U-Haul truck.
With boxes falling out of the back, the suspects then led authorities on a dangerous chase across the city. After ditching the U-Haul near Randy's Donuts in Inglewood, the suspects transferred to a black sedan, CBS News Los Angeles reports, a vehicle that was incidentally captured speeding on the 405 Freeway by SkyCal. Ignoring traffic signs and running red lights, the sedan made its way through the city streets, narrowly avoiding collisions.
The pursuit culminated in a crash at around 6 a.m. near the intersection of Arlington Avenue and 48th Street, as reported by MyNewsLA.com. Following the collision, which involved an innocent driver who reportedly suffered no serious injuries, two suspects were detained while at least one other fled the scene on foot, leading to a large police perimeter around the Hyde Park neighborhood and ongoing search efforts.
Police have advised residents in the affected area to secure their doors and remain indoors. The crash, which involved a motorist who was not seriously injured, left the LAPD still in search of the driver and potentially additional accomplices. The suspects were last reported donning ski masks and dark clothing, and police are actively collecting evidence from the scattered contents of the U-Haul along the chase route.
