Hillsborough County is inviting students to participate in the annual Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest. Open to kindergarten through 12th-grade students, the contest encourages participants to create posters highlighting the importance of water conservation.
According to the official announcement, participants are asked to create an original poster that conveys the message of water conservation using a slogan and/or image. Students may use crayons, paint, colored pencils, or markers on an 8.5 x 11-inch white paper. Highlighters, photos, and computer graphics are not allowed, as the contest requires all entries to be handmade.
The contest is divided into five divisions based on grade level, from kindergarten through 12th grade. Each school may submit one poster per division to advance to the local level, where entries will be reviewed by staff from Hillsborough County’s Water Resources Department and the City of Tampa Water Department. Judging will focus on the clarity of the conservation message, as well as creativity, originality, and artistic skill.
Local-level winners, chosen by the judging panel, will have their artwork made into posters and custom puzzles and will receive a water conservation retrofit kit. Winning entries at the local level will move on to the state competition, overseen by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association. Artists advancing to the state level may also receive additional rewards, such as gift cards and conservation kits. Entries for the local contest must be submitted by February 15 to [email protected], according to Hillsborough County.
