Houston ushered in 2026 with the sounds of newborn cries as local hospitals reported the first births of the year. Per information released by Click2Houston, the stroke of midnight on New Year's saw the arrival of baby girl Julia at Children’s Memorial Hermann, weighing a solid 10 pounds and five ounces. As per tradition, both mother and baby were reported to be in good health.

The newborn celebrations didn't stop there, with Memorial Hermann Greater Heights jumping to welcome baby boy Adriel Santoyo at precisely 12:28 a.m., tipping the scales at eight pounds, four ounces. In what seems to almost be a carefully choreographed sequence, Memorial Hermann Memorial City was not far behind, greeting baby girl Romi at 12:59 a.m. with mother Rashmi Gaikwad. "Memorial Hermann Health System delivers more babies than any other hospital system in the Houston area, recently setting a milestone record of over 30,000 deliveries in a year," said Memorial Hermann, in a statement obtained by Click2Houston.

Other hospitals were quick to join the celebration as well. St. Luke's Health - The Woodlands Hospital joyously welcomed Myla Mae Chebret at 12:12 a.m., while Texas Children’s Hospital introduced Elina Abuasab at 1:42 a.m. and Hannah Harper at 3:40 a.m., according to details from a KHOU report. Stellar Lee Schartz also made his debut at 2:16 a.m. at Houston Methodist Baytown, to the joy of parents Breyanna and Lee Schartz, who shared, "A tiny heartbeat making this New Year brighter than we ever imagined."

Houston welcomed its first New Year babies, marking a sense of renewal and hope for families across the city. Houston Methodist hospitals in The Woodlands, Cypress, and West reported the year’s initial births, prompting congratulations and well-wishes throughout the community. KHOU noted that these arrivals represent more than just numbers—they reflect growing families beginning the year with new life and promise.
