The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Freeze Warning effective until 9 AM EST Wednesday, with the advisory stressing sub-freezing temperatures as low as 26 degrees, and a Freeze Watch following up from late Wednesday night through Thursday morning, indicating that temperatures might once again dip as low as 28 degrees.
Affected areas include Coastal Duval and Coastal Nassau Counties in Florida, along with Coastal Camden and Coastal Glynn Counties in Georgia; these regions are advised to take action to protect not just the tender vegetation, but also outdoor pets and individuals vulnerable to such cold snaps, like the young children, the elderly, and the homeless community who might not have enough shelter to guard against the chill, as per Freeze Watch by the NWS.
The forecast for the following days suggests a cycle of widespread frost, particularly impactful in the early hours before the sun climbs, with temperatures gradually climbing towards the weekend, residents are looking at a chilly period with intermittent sunshine and the chance of showers Friday night, said to be about 40 percent, and a slight chance of rain showers, maybe even snow showers on Saturday, according to the NWS forecast.
The NWS indicates a breezy weekend with mostly clear nights. Another period of widespread frost is expected after 2 a.m. Sunday. Residents are advised to dress warmly and maintain heating as temperatures remain low.
