Burt, a native of Buna and the former 1st Assistant Criminal District Attorney of Jasper County, has an extensive background spanning education and law. His career has intersected various roles, from serving the Newton County as an assistant criminal district attorney, to engaging in private practice, and overseeing the Buna Independent School District (ISD) first as assistant superintendent and then as its superintendent.
A vigorous participant in the legal space, Burt is a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys’ Association and has served as president of the Buna ISD School Board. His educational sojourn began with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Lamar University, followed by a Master of Education in Administration. His pursuit of legal prowess culminated with a Juris Doctor from the South Texas College of Law. The Governor's office notes that Burt's cumulative experiences are anticipated to be a boon for Jasper County's legal proceedings and community welfare.
This appointment comes at a time when Jasper County is grappling with a slew of challenges pertaining to its criminal justice system.
