The Kirkland Police Department has shared a recap of its December activities, a month that was as busy as any other in the suburban sprawl, highlighting a spectrum of incidents ranging from the self-reported to the absurd. The Kirkland Police Department, taking to social media, reported they responded to 3,876 calls and made 146 arrests over the course of the month. A notable moment included a 48-year-old woman who dialed 911 herself after hitting a parked car, admitting she was "definitely DUI," a confession leading to her arrest.
In a scenario where the need for speed overpowered common sense, officers stopped a 35-year-old man careening 76 mph in a 25 mph zone - his excuse, wanting a friend on the phone to "hear the exhaust," led to an arrest for reckless driving. Meanwhile, the presence of firearms on the roads maintained its grim spot in the headlines, as a driver reported having a handgun pointed at them during a road rage incident; the suspect was subsequently located and arrested by KPD.
But not all crimes were so blatant. There were the craftier machinations people found themselves ensnared by, like the 35-year-old woman defrauded of $200,000 by scammers pretending to be international investigators requiring her to move her savings to a fictitious "escrow" account. And another man, convincingly contacted by a fake bank "fraud department," was duped into transferring $28,000 to "protect" his accounts.
