La Bonita Supermarkets quietly cut the ribbon this month on its largest Las Vegas location yet, taking over part of the old Kmart footprint at the Sunrise shopping center near Bonanza and Nellis. The family-owned chain’s new store is the company’s eighth Valley location and brings a tortillería, juice bar and an in-store taquería to the east side. The opening is also the clearest sign yet of a larger rework at a plaza that had been hit hard by vacancies after Kmart closed.
What Shoppers Will Find Inside
La Bonita's website lists the Bonanza location as its eighth store and highlights in-store features that include a tortillería baking fresh tortillas, a panadería, a juice bar and a counter serving tacos, tortas and flautas. Shoppers should find a full produce department alongside prepared foods and traditional Mexican bakery items.
How The Strip Plaza Got A Makeover
Balboa Retail Partners' property listing shows the Sunrise center spans roughly 147,514 square feet, while city records and local reporting indicate La Bonita's new footprint measures more than 50,000 square feet. Recent arrivals at the center include Boot Barn, Ross Dress for Less, Five Below and Hibbett, and leasing broker Rhonda White told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that splitting a big-box space into multiple tenants requires expensive remodeling work. The project and the owner’s listing together show how landlords have worked to fill a long-vacant anchor.
Why East-Side Residents Are Paying Attention
City officials touted the opening on social media and local outlets picked up the announcement; an article offering authentic Mexican fare on Hoodline highlighted the city's post. La Bonita's locations page confirms the Bonanza store as its eighth Valley site, a visible boost for shoppers who have long wanted more full-line grocery options on the east side.
