Four people were arrested early yesterday in Grafton after investigators linked them to a residential burglary in Beaver Dam that reportedly cleared out a large amount of cash and jewelry. Law enforcement converged on a home along Lake Shore Road in the town of Grafton, surrounded the property, and took the suspects into custody without anyone getting hurt, according to county officials. Deputies say the arrests came after a tip about a vehicle believed to be tied to the break-in.
Arrests Tied To Late-Night Vehicle Sighting
Late Tuesday, deputies were alerted to a black Dodge with Nebraska license plates that investigators believe was used in the Beaver Dam burglary. The car turned up in the driveway of a Lake Shore Road home around 3:45 a.m. Deputies set up a perimeter, used a loudspeaker to issue commands and moved in on the occupants, according to FOX6 Milwaukee. Two people briefly bolted from the back of the house but headed right back inside when officers closed in.
Drone Team, Perimeter Push Suspects To Surrender
Multiple agencies, including a drone team, joined the operation. After repeated announcements, three people came out of the home and were taken into custody without incident, and a fourth suspect later surrendered, the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office said. Investigators searched the residence while neighbors were told to shelter in place. Deputies say the vehicle tied to the Beaver Dam burglary was located on the property and the occupants were detained for questioning.
Evidence Turned Up At Short-Term Rental
Inside the Grafton home, investigators say they found evidence "directly associated" with the Beaver Dam break-in, and later determined the property was being used as a short-term vacation rental that the suspects had booked, according to FOX6 Milwaukee. Officials described the stolen haul only as a "large amount" of cash and jewelry. All four suspects were taken to the Ozaukee County Jail for booking and further processing.
What Happens Next In The Case
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office says the four are being held at the county jail as they await formal charges that could include possession of stolen property and criminal damage to property. The agency is working with the Beaver Dam Police Department on the ongoing investigation. Detectives will finish processing evidence and consult with prosecutors before any charges are filed. The stretch of Lake Shore Road that had been shut down for the operation was reopened later Wednesday morning.
Legal Road Ahead
If prosecutors move forward, the exact counts and potential penalties will hinge on the value of the stolen property and any documented damage. From there, the case would proceed to arraignment and pretrial hearings in Ozaukee County Circuit Court. Anyone with information about the Beaver Dam burglary is asked to contact the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office or the Beaver Dam Police Department.
