Early Tuesday morning, an incident unfolded in the southwest Las Vegas area where a police officer shot and killed a man after he was seen pointing a gun at a woman, according to News 3 LV. Captain Ryan Wiggins of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police disclosed the location of the shooting near Rocky Hill Street and Russell Road, just east of Fort Apache Road.
Officers were called around 7:30 a.m. after a report of a man pointing a gun at a woman. Upon arrival, they heard arguing inside an apartment. When a woman opened the door, an officer saw a man aiming a gun at her and fired. Captain Wiggins said the officer acted because the woman was in extreme danger. The suspect was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead, according to News 3 LV.
Details are still emerging. FOX5 Vegas reported that the incident began with a 911 call from a woman saying her boyfriend had a gun and was threatening her. The suspect was shot by officers and later died at the hospital. It is unclear whether he fired at the officers.
Travelers were advised to avoid the area due to a large police presence, with road closures expected for three to four hours, according to FOX5 Vegas. The woman involved was treated on scene for minor injuries and did not require hospitalization, KTNV reported. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident, including a review of body camera footage. This marks the department's first officer-involved shooting of 2026.
