Today marks the somber anniversary of a mystery that has gone unsolved for over four decades. On January 21, 1983, Fred Robert Sims, a 49-year-old husband and father, vanished after having dinner with his wife at a restaurant on Boulder Highway. The grim conclusion to his disappearance came when his wife discovered his body near Harmon and Sheppard Drive, where he had been shot multiple times. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department took to social media to remind the public that despite the passage of time, the quest for justice endures.
The LVMPD shared a composite sketch of the suspected perpetrator, accentuating that even after 43 years, the identity of the suspect remains a mystery. In their post, LVMPD stated, "Someone knows who did this. If you recognize the suspect, speak up." They urge anyone with information to contact the LVMPD Homicide division or Crime Stoppers, providing an opportunity, to remain anonymous.
Through a social media post published today, the LVMPD appealed to the public for help, inviting them to visit their cold case website dedicated to unresolved incidents from the 1980s. They stressed the value of communal memory and the hope that someone may hold the key to solving this long-standing mystery. Although Sims’s case is among the oldest in their files, the department’s determination to find answers remains strong despite the passage of time. Anyone with information is urged to contact LVMPD Homicide at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
