A mountain biking incident on the "Flow Job Trail" near Blue Diamond prompted a full-scale rescue operation yesterday, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue through their social media channels. According to LVMPD Search and Rescue's Instagram post, a mountain biker suffered a harsh fall, resulting in a broken arm and leg, which necessitated an extensive effort to safely evacuate the injured party.
The call for help came in around 11 am, and support staff from the Bureau of Land Management and Clark County Fire Department were dispatched to expediently make their way on foot to the scene. Search and Rescue officers were separately inserted by AIR3, a helicopter resource vital to cover and quickly reach those terrains where wheels and steps dare not tread alone. It is crucial to recognize how SAR personnel, backed by two mountain rescue volunteers, worked hand-in-glove to secure and provide immediate care to the injured biker.
On-site treatment was rendered by Fire Department medics, prepping the victim for an aerial extraction. Immobile yet stabilized, the patient was loaded into a litter and hoisted into AIR3, facilitating a direct transport to the standby ground ambulance poised along SR159. From there, the individual was taken to a local hospital for further treatment, ensuring no time was lost in addressing their serious injuries.
After ensuring the patient's safe departure, AIR3 was deployed once more, this time to retrieve remaining SAR officers. Meanwhile, Fire Department personnel accompanied the victim's biking party, assuring their safe return.
