Las Vegas residents and sports enthusiasts have a new reason to embrace the city's growing interest in the sport of pickleball. On Thursday, city officials, alongside Nevada's Lt. Governor Stavros Anthony, will initiate the construction of a significant enhancement to the city's athletic infrastructure—a large pickleball complex at Wayne Bunker Park.

The new facility will feature 24 pickleball courts with lighting and fencing, and is expected to be fully operational by early 2027. Construction on the previously undeveloped section of Bunker Park will also include shade structures, seating, illuminated pathways, ample parking, landscaping, and a vehicle entrance from Alexander Road. Once completed, Las Vegas will have 59 public pickleball courts.

The project costs over $12 million, funded through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA), which returns proceeds from regional land sales to the community. APCO Construction has been selected as the contractor, with the City of Las Vegas serving as construction manager.

Las Vegas Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong will open four new pickleball courts at Lorenzi Park on January 6, GovDelivery reported. Constructed by JNJ Engineering at $800,000, the courts bring the city’s total to 35 and increase local access to the sport.

Pickleball’s growing popularity in Las Vegas reflects a nationwide trend. The city is becoming a hub for the sport, offering residents and visitors more opportunities to play.
