Long Beach has officially welcomed its new minor league baseball team with a name that celebrates both the city's coastal heritage and its cultural prowess. Dubbed the Long Beach Coast, the name certainly paints a picture of the city's significant coastline, a nod to the city’s eleven-mile stretch connecting the East Side to the West Side. In a release by the team, they say, "Where ocean meets concrete, hustle meets chill and old school roots meet new school energy…the Long Beach Coast celebrates the connective thread that runs through every part of the city." This statement was reported by KTLA.
Not content with just one identity, the team also has an alter ego: The Long Beach Regulators. The name pays homage to the city's '90s hip-hop influence, specifically the song "Regulate" by Long Beach native Warren G. The iconic rapper even lent his own voice in support of the team's dual identity, saying, "Long Beach has always set its own tone and had its own swagger," and "this baseball team, the Coast, represents the heart of the city – but the Regulators legacy will always be part of Long Beach culture." These comments were delivered in a press release, as reported by both KTLA and CBS News.
Ena Patel, President of the Long Beach Baseball Club, highlighted the importance of the dual identities, likening them to known pairings like Kobe Bryant and Black Mamba, and Eminem and Slim Shady. "We want to build a brand where anyone in Long Beach can see themselves in it – who doesn't have a little bit of an alter ego or super hero in them?" said Patel, in a statement obtained by CBS News. The idea is to give the team room to explore different aesthetics and push the boundaries of a baseball brand.
The team's unique visual identity, helmed by Long Beach designer Francisco Reyes of the Never Made brand, blends a teal colorway with a mix of black, gray, and cream. The merchandise reflecting this aesthetic is already up for grabs, and for those looking to score tickets for the upcoming 2026 season, they are available, featuring a 10% discount on season tickets. The promotion also extends to 10% off select stadium concessions and Coast merch, as reported on the team's official website.
As the Long Beach Coast, also known as the Regulators, prepares to start their inaugural season at Blair Field, fans and city officials alike have expressed excitement. Mayor Rex Richardson noted, "This is exactly what community baseball should feel like — fun, inclusive, and unmistakably Long Beach," as described by CBS News. With a brand identity deeply rooted in local culture and designed to unify, the Long Beach Coast may just be the new heartbeat of the city.
