A 44-year-old man died early Sunday after police say he jumped from a moving car on Loop 410 during an argument and was then struck by another vehicle. The crash happened around 2:10 a.m. near Bandera Road. The man, who had been riding in the passenger seat, was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to San Antonio police.
Police Say Passenger Jumped After Late-Night Argument
As reported by News 4 San Antonio, the San Antonio Police Department says the man jumped from the vehicle during a dispute with someone inside. He landed on the roadway and was hit by a car traveling in the same direction. First responders rushed him to a hospital, where he later died. Officers were working to sort out the details of both the argument and the crash.
Where It Happened
The crash unfolded on a busy stretch of Loop 410 at Bandera Road, a corridor that local reporting and traffic studies have repeatedly flagged for heavy congestion and serious collisions. The San Antonio Express-News has noted that Loop 410 is among the region's most clogged roadways and that Bandera segments have a record of hazardous traffic patterns. Late-night hours and high speeds tend to make crashes on the loop especially severe.
Traffic-Safety Context
Researchers and local analysts point to complex interchanges, speed differences and late-night driving as factors that raise crash risk on the loop. An MDPI study of San Antonio intersections found that certain stretches of Loop 410 account for a disproportionate share of fatal and serious-injury crashes. That research helps explain how a roadside dispute or someone exiting a moving vehicle can turn deadly in seconds. The city and state continue to examine where engineering or enforcement changes could help reduce such outcomes.
The San Antonio Police Department is investigating the incident. Authorities have not released additional details. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
