Authorities are seeking additional victims of a man recently arrested for a sexual assault that took place in downtown Los Angeles. Per CBS Los Angeles, the assault occurred near Eighth Street and Main Street, with 30-year-old Joseph Lee Davis identified as the suspect. Davis allegedly forced his way into a room where the female victim was present, attempted to remove her pants, and sexually assaulted her before she managed to escape and seek help.
Following the incident, which took place at approximately 5 p.m. on a Sunday, the suspect fled but was later arrested on a Tuesday near Sixth Street and San Julian Street. According to CBS Los Angeles, Davis, who was booked for attempted rape, has a prior sexual battery conviction, which necessitated his registration as a sex offender, a requirement he did not fulfill. Due to the gravity of the offenses, police have reason to believe there could be additional victims.
The Los Angeles Police Department is urging anyone with information related to this case or who may have been a victim of Davis to step forward. The LAPD has also released a description of Davis. He is a Black male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall, and 190 pounds. He was last observed sporting a burgundy Nike sweater, blue pants, and red sandals.
Further details on the suspect's arrest were made available by the LAPD on their official site, including the specific charges of Attempted Rape under the California Penal Code. Video evidence from closed-circuit television was instrumental in identifying Davis, and the victim was able to positively identify him as her assailant.
