A fire that erupted in a Lynnwood duplex on Monday night has resulted in the death of a man. The blaze, which was reported just before 9 p.m., engulfed the duplex located in the 2800 block of 200th Street Southwest. As per KING5, the fire was contained mostly to one side of the building, the same side where the victim, a man in his 60s, was later found by firefighters.

Difficulties arose as firefighters had to carefully search the building amid structural concerns and the presence of debris. According to reports by KOMO News, one of the units housed a "significant amount of possessions," making it harder for crews to quickly put out the fire and thoroughly search the unit. The deceased man was discovered around midnight on the first floor of that unit.

It took more than three dozen firefighters to respond to the emergency, with one firefighter sustaining minor injuries during the operation. The injured firefighter was treated and released, as stated by Lynnwood Times. The remaining flames and hotspots were dealt with until roughly 6:30 a.m. the following Tuesday.

The blaze displaced four other residents from the adjacent unit, who managed to escape safely. These individuals are presently being assisted by the American Red Cross and Support 7 volunteers. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office. South County Fire took the opportunity to remind the public to "check your home’s smoke alarms," emphasizing the importance of these devices in increasing the time available to safely escape during a fire.
