A deadly blaze claimed the life of a man in Madison County this past Friday. Jefferson Township Fire Chief Daniel Gatley confirmed that firefighters were dispatched to a residence on the 9500 block of High Free Pike near West Jefferson around 9:15 a.m. following reports of an individual trapped inside, as described in a 10TV article. Upon entry, emergency crews engaged a significant fire engulfing both the front and rear of the home before locating a deceased male inside.
While the identity of the victim has yet to be publicly released, the Madison County Coroner's Office has taken custody of the body. “They searched the residence and discovered a body,” Gatley told ABC6. No further casualties were reported in what has quickly become a grave reminder of fire's unsparing wrath.
Assistance at the scene was provided by the Washington Township Fire Department and the Columbus Division of Fire, ensuring the conflagration was contained without injury to any responding firefighters. The tragic incident marks the second fatal fire to erupt in central Ohio on the same day, casting a somber shadow over the community as colder temperatures beset the region.
As it currently stands, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. “The cause of the fire is under investigation,” was noted by Jefferson Township fire officials in a NBC4i report.
